The Toyota Tacoma has a rich history. This vehicle has expressed vast development over the years, and today, the Tacoma is better than ever before. We want to take a look into this vehicle’s past though, and discover the foundation that has made it so great. Join us as we uncover the Toyota Tacoma.
First Generation Toyota Tacoma
Development for the first generation Toyota Tacoma began in 1989. After careful development, this pickup finally hit the pavement in early 1995. It was released as a replacement for the Hilux, which was previously marketed as a Toyota Pickup. The Toyota Tacoma upped the ante with handling, safety, comfort, and overall ride quality. It was built to take on rugged terrain with ease, so the traveling experience when driving the first generation of this truck was sure to be one to remember.
Second Generation Toyota Tacoma
The second generation Toyota Tacoma started being developed in the year 2000. Most of this model’s development was handled in Japan, and its designers won an award for internal design in 2001. The battle wasn’t quite over yet, though. The final version of this model wasn’t released until years following.
After a freeze in production and multiple tests, the second generation Tacoma was finally revealed at the Chicago Auto Show on February 4, 2004. This version of the Toyota Tacoma was larger and more powerful than before, making it a hot commodity within the automotive market. This new model was available in various configurations – eighteen to be exact. When selecting which Tacoma to purchase, buyers could choose from three cab configurations (regular, access, and double), two bed lengths, two engines, four transmissions. How’s that for diversity? How’s that for “satisfaction guaranteed”?
Third Generation Toyota Tacoma
In January of 2015, the Toyota Tacoma was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. This vehicle was available for purchase a few months later in September of 2015, and it was an immediate success. Toyota updated the Tacoma by adding high strength steel into its design and ultra-high strength steel into its body. These simple changes increased the truck’s rigidity, while simultaneously decreasing weight. Other components were also updated, including rear differentials, suspensions, and rear axle – improving the vehicle’s drive while maintaining it’s capability to go off-road.
The third generation of the Toyota Tacoma is the current model on the market today. This model is available in 6 distinct trim levels. These include the base SR, mid-level SR5, TRD Off Road, TRD Sport, Limited, and range topping TRD Pro. Additionally, the Tacoma’s inner components include an available 2.7-Liter I4, 3.5-Liter V6, 5-speed manual transmission, and 6-speed automatic transmission. Delve into the variety of options available and get into the vehicle that best meets your needs.
